01 — Approach

A custom home is the largest object you’ll ever commission.

We treat it that way. Shipwright Homes designs and builds ground-up custom residences from the first site walk to the final walkthrough — collaborating with architects, designers, and engineers when needed, and self-performing the detail work that defines the finished result.

Every home we build is anchored in three things: a clear schedule, transparent costs, and craftsmanship you can put your hand on. We’re on site daily, we manage every sub, and we look out for the homeowner’s best interest at each decision point.

02 — What’s Included

From the first conversation to the final walkthrough.

A complete scope of work, delivered by one team with a single point of accountability.

/ 01

Site & feasibility

Lot review, zoning and setback assessment, permit-pathway clarity, and a realistic look at what the site will support before design begins.

/ 02

Design coordination

Collaboration with architects and designers to translate vision into a buildable, permittable, and beautifully detailed set of plans.

/ 03

Transparent estimating

Firm bids from every sub-trade before the work starts. You know what the project costs before the first foundation pour, not after.

/ 04

Foundation through framing

Excavation, foundation, structural framing, and weatherproofing performed by trusted crews with on-site supervision at every stage.

/ 05

Finishes & millwork

Custom cabinetry, stonework, trim, tile, and the final layer of details that separate a built house from a finished home.

/ 06

Project management & close-out

Weekly updates, milestone walkthroughs, punch-list discipline, and a clean handoff with documentation for every system in the home.

04 — Questions

About building a custom home.

Common questions from clients considering a ground-up build.

How long does it take to build a custom home?

Timelines depend on size, complexity, and site conditions, but most custom homes take 9–14 months from groundbreaking to move-in. We share a detailed schedule before construction starts and keep you updated at every milestone.

How much does a custom home cost?

Custom home pricing varies based on square footage, finishes, site work, and design complexity, so we don’t quote a flat per-square-foot rate. After an initial conversation about your goals and budget, we’ll put together a transparent estimate tailored to your project.

Do you work with my architect, or do you have one on the team?

Both. We collaborate seamlessly with architects and designers you already trust, and we can also introduce you to design partners we’ve worked with for years. The right answer depends on what you want the working relationship to look like.

How involved will I be during construction?

As involved as you want to be. Some clients walk the site weekly; others travel and trust us to keep the project moving. Either way you’ll get clear communication, photos at every milestone, and decisions surfaced well before they become urgent.
